As to how to fix TeX Live on the Mac, I don't know.

I would recommend alternatives:

- The simplest: install Gerben Wierda's TeX, a combination of teTeX and
TeX Live, using i-Installer:

	<http://www.rna.nl>

- Two other more Unixy alternatives: install through either DarwinPorts:

	<http://darwinports.opendarwin.org>

or Fink:

	<http://fink.sourceforge.net>

You might even afterwards want to install a Cocoa front-end to these
distributions; see the lists provided here:

	<http://www.rna.nl/tex.html>

or there:

Hope this helps,
