Thanks to Luca Turchetti.  Yes that works.  Incidentally, it took a scale 
factor of about 1.2 to get the Zapf Chancery to look around the same size 
as \cal.  That is partly because the capitals, at least, have significant 
depth.  Anyway, it now works.  

Actually it seems to me a poor idea to actually change the fd file.  
Better to place the new definitions into an included file or even into the 
main file.
