Oops! I too should've read the amsldoc more carefully! By the way don't 
you think ${}^A\!B$ gives a better looking result than ${}^AB$? So, maybe 
one can do something like

     \newcommand{\lsup}[2]{%
        \ensuremath{{}^{#2}\!{#1}}}

and go \lsup{B}{A}.
