[texhax] latex runs much slower as nis user

This was half true. The trailing slash in my $HOME was causing kpsewhich and 
others to conduct recursive searches (or something) at the point of the 
resulting double slash in the final .tex file path. In other words a few gigs 
of data was being searched for constructing a minor dvi, never mind trying to 
output a thesis. Nevertheless, all fixed now :)
