[texhax] enumeration question

Hello,

I tried to figure out how I can name my problem but the easiest way is to
paste my latex code rather than trying to verbalize it.

so far I did:

text ...... \cite{Potter:2003} computed net primary productivity (NPP) by

\begin{center}

NPP = $S_r FPAR e_{max} T W$ \footnotesize{\citep{Potter:2003}}

\end{center}

 where

 \begin{itemize}
 \item[ ]$S_r$ = solar radiance
 \item[ ]FPAR = fraction of absorption of photosynthetically active radiation
 \item[ ]$e_{max}$ = constant light utilisation efficiency term
 \item[ ]T = temperature
 \item[ ]W = moisture \citep{Potter:2003}
 \end{itemize}

I would like to have the "where" in the same line as the first item. I tried
various ways like \begin{flushleft} etc. but that does not work either.

any idea how to do this? thanks in advance cheers Martin
