I'm not completely sure what you want.  Is it
 
where        *  $S_r$ = solar radiance
             *  FPAR = fraction of absorption of photosynthetically
                active radiation
             *  $e_{max}$ = constant light utilisation efficiency term
 
If so, you might try putting  where  and the itemized list in minipages.
