it is often best to use both systems, and then convert your jpg, png and 
pdf to eps files when working with 'normal' latex. Mainly because 
previewing in GV or GSView is a lot faster than Acrobat Reader.

BTW: use jpeg2ps to convert jpg's to eps, then one doesn't loose 
compression.
