Word is somewhat of a problem, but PDF is easy. pdfTeX (included in  
most modern distributions of TeX) outputs PDF directly. Or you can  
render the dvi output from TeX via dvipdfm, or you can transform the  
dvi output to postscript and distill that with Acrobat.
