Hello Dr. Katscher,

    Unfortunately Adobe is very expensive. Is it really necessary to buy
    the whole Adobe program for this purpose? Or are there other
    possibilities?

It isn't necessary to buy anything from Adobe.

Pierre already mentioned the crucial first step -- to scan or photograph
the illustrations, so that you have them in an electronic form.  This
will usually result in a PDF, JPEG, or some other such file.

Then (perhaps after file format conversions) it is possible to include
them in LaTeX, using the standard \includegraphics command (most likely
inside \begin{figure} ... \end{figure}, as you probably did with your
geometrical figures.

The other techniques Pierre mentioned will help you get the
highest-quality results, once you have the basic procedure down.
