No, don't do that.

Craft a WordBASIC macro and toolbar set which will allow you to  
format based on a paragraph's content, and which includes an button  
to delete all formatting. (You may need to include hitting the  
Command/Control Shift F9 key to convert field code fields to text).

Optionally you can include a search-replace for specific characters  
to get them formatted as desired --- I do this with a journal here at  
work once or twice a month, converting a several MB, ~150--200 pg.  
Word .doc to a styled document which can then be paged into a  
~90--120 pg. journal in Quark (or LaTeX) in less than 13 or 14 hours.
