[texhax] \scalebox and resolution

Hi,

Suppose I have a bit-mapped image that has a resolution of 300 dpi
and is 1200 pixels by 900 pixels -- 4 inches by 3 inches.  Suppose
I include this image as a LaTeX figure using
    \scalebox{.5}{\includegraphics{filename}}
Does this result in a figure that has the same number of pixels in
half the inches such that in effect I have doubled the resolution
to 600 dpi?  Or how should I think about this?  The final PostScript
file including this image will go to a book printing company company.
