Dear Alex,
Your example below works fine. (although you have
no $ ... $ therein.)  My problem was much more complex.

If you are interested, see the .sty file attached that
has a comment about the problem of getting braces in a
verbatim-like context used for handling C-programs.

But maybe you can solve my dvips -Ppdf problem?
