[texhax] Question about the overcite package

Check the documentation of overcite.
Doesn't
\citen{REFERENCE}
produce the online version and
\cite{REFERENCE}
produce the superscript version?
That's what I seem to recall looking at a manuscript I produced that needed
the same flexibility.
I don't recall whether this declaration before \begin{document}
was necessary for that or accomplished something else:
\makeatletter \def\@cite#1{\textsuperscript{(#1)}}\makeatother
