[texhax] problems with sub and super scripts

Is this in a display or in nomral text - for displaystyle in normal text
use:

$\displaystyle\sum_{(i,j)\in C(p,q)}$

> is not the same. What is the way around that?

Should be x_{ij}^{pq}
