Swami Pallasena asks:

I am looking for two news symbols that are yet not available
in The Comprehensive LaTeX Symbols List in CTAN.
( I need to use them in a document with mathpazo font
    and using pdfLaTeX.)

    (i) An upper semicircle
so that a macro like \semi{X} places a semicircle on top
of the letter "X" (the symbol \frown is not what I am
looking for, but a half circle).

(ii) same as above, with the central dot includec.

      Any help will be appreciated.

the font lcircle -- used for the latex picture
environment -- has quarter circles that should
be able to be put together into appropriate
semicircles. i don't have time to do this,
unfortunately, but maybe this will give someone
else an idea for where to start.

but i am interested in what is the meaning of
the two symbols as described. i have been
working with the stix group to get new symbols
into unicode, and i've never heard of these two.
the unicode technical committee has accepted
the premise that math/technical notation is
open ended, and are amenable to encoding more
"generally accepted" symbols, provided these
symbols are presented with
 - a clear indication of how they're used
 - examples *in context*, preferably showing
at least one instance with a definition
