I spoke too soon. "1-" still allows breaks after the hyphen, like "partirem-
nas".  That simplest pattern should be "1-2" or "1-4" to prevent breaks
after the explicit hyphen.  Then a pattern like "1-2" could still leave
a single letter after the hyphen because TeX does not apply \lefthyphenmin
rules in the middle of a word.  So I still like the set of 
(odd)-(even)(letter)4

Any maintainers reading?

Maybe this type of hyphenation needs to be supported in a variant language,
if it is not always used.
