Hi Thomas,

All the information you should need to process your TeX files can be  
found at http://tug.org.

I would suggest you get a copy of the TeXLive installation for easy  
set up and running. You can get it from http://tug.org/texlive/ This  
will contains the necessary software for processing your files plus  
tools for editing it. If however you want to convert the tex files to  
rtf you can use latex2rtf from http://latex2rtf.sourceforge.net/

To be honest though, I do not think that MS Word is the right tool to  
be using for writing and publishing software documentation, let alone  
documentation that is voluminous. On Windows the choices I would  
recommend would be either LaTeX, TeX (as above) or FrameMaker from http://www.adobe.com/products/framemaker/
