[texhax] Per-page indices in weave output?

Hi,

First an apology - this probably isn't the best place to ask, but I'm
not aware of any WEB email lists, and I imagine at least a few folks
here have the wisdom I seek. In the Millennium Edition of _Computers
and Typesetting_, the volumes B and D (TeX and METAFONT: the program)
have beautifully typeset sources for TeX and METAFONT. In particular,
every odd page has a large "footnote" with a cross-reference for every
identifier, constant, or macro that's referenced anywhere on either
page. When I obtain tex.web and run "weave tex.web; tex tex.tex", the
result is missing these footnotes. Are they only a "value-add" for
the Millennium Editions? Is there any way to tell WEAVE to produce
them generically? Or is it necessary to transform the WEAVE output in
some way, adding marks to figure out what exactly ends up on the page
so that I can add the footnotes myself? (eek!)

Thanks,
steve
