[texhax] "Swedish in LaTex"

Dear Sirs,

I'm using Texmaker 1.6 on MAC. When i try a .tex file that worked OK  
in Windows I get
line 25 -> !Latex Error: Command \textcurrency unavailable in encoding  
OT1. \Huge\textbf{ABC i kärlkirurgi}

and simular wherevever i put any of åäö - special swedish letters

I tried inserting
\usepackage[T1]{fontenc}
but this wasn't the solution as I got

... metric(TMF) file notfound

Any suggestions?
