In that case, I believe you'd be well-served by using xmltex which nicely extends LaTeX so as to be able to directly typeset xml.

I've begun using it here at work (at my previous job we used some Plain TeX macros written by Jeff McArthur) and once I got past a stupid typo on my part and puzzled out how to make an xexmltex format, found it to be easily understandable and customizable.

Nice appendix on it in the book _Digital Typography Using LaTeX_.
