[texhax] MikTeX / WinEdit question

One of my colleagues asked me two questions I cannot answer as I use
neither MikTeX nor WinEdit:



I am currently running WinEdt 5.5 and using Miktek 2.7 on Windows XP
2003 Package 3. I must now upgrade to Miktek 2.9 as my older version
is no longer supported and I want to install Beamer so I can do
presentations with it. Let me know if you can answer the following
questions? (I have contacted support at WinEdt but no answer from them
yet.)

1. Can I continue to use WinEdt 5.5 with Miktek 2.9?

2. I am a pretty basic user of Latex, few bells and whistles. The only
reason I am upgrading to Miktek 2.9 is to use Beamer, which I never
downloaded before
and is not available any more on 2.7. Are there likely to be any
noticeable advantages to upgrading to WinEdt 6?

Also can anyone comment on compatibility between      WE 6 and Windows
XP 2003 Package 3.
