Why not? Word on the Mac is pretty good. I would use it to edit txt 
(tex) documents though because it may change characters depending on 
what font (therefore character set) is set as default.

Agreed, it is what I use and I have used a lot of different editors.

Not really. It was the talk about Word that led me astray and I am a Mac 
user who uses Word on the Mac every day.

That is more likely to be delays in postings getting through various 
mail systems.
