[texhax] FAQ: Copy-paste-able/searchable PDF files - for plainTeX and pdftex

By the way, in that FAQ, "PDFTeX" in the paragraph about the use of cmap
and mmap should be "pdflatex", correct?

Yes. I'll mention it to RobinF.

Any suggestions for generating copy-paste-able/searchable pdf files
    from plain TeX and pdftex?

If I run pdftex on the one-line plain tex file:
  hello\bye
my PDF viewer (xpdf, but I suspect others would be ok too)
can find "he" in the resulting .pdf file.

If you need searching beyond 7-bit ASCII to work, maybe just running
xetex or luatex (as the FAQ entry suggests) would work? After
switching to a Unicode font. I haven't tried it, though.

But if you mean something just like cmap/mmap for plain tex, as you
probably do ... as far as I know there is nothing. I wish there was.
I hope someone else knows an alternative.

Best,
Karl
