I just downloaded the pullquote package, to see what it is doing.
It looks wonderful from the pictures.

The instructions for using wrapfig this way are in ctan:
macros/latex/contrib/wrapfig/multiple-span.txt
but it is ugly manual fiddling.

LuaTeX in concert with textpos should be capable of automatically
locating the alignment positions in the two columns, with a bunch
of work.
