No, I think you're being far more realistic than I am.
Okay, so a good solution isn't feasible until such time as there is an
\omathchar-like primitive for XeTeX.
I guess the question then becomes would one find it ``good enough'' to
just shoehorn in the characters as text?
Well, that at least is a manageable thing to research / look into, and
a good way for me to learn more 'bout math fonts in TeX.

(who is rather sheepishly remembering a post he'd made recently wherein
he'd pointed out that OpenType fonts don't have all the information in
them TeX wants for math typesetting --- obviously all the scanning I'm
doing is burning out brain cells or putting me in a trance or something
where my brain isn't working)
