A correction: the appropriate command to fix up a MacTeX test
installation is

     sudo texconfig-sys paper a4
or
     sudo texconfig-sys paper letter

as appropriate.

The MacTeX installer will also have created a bunch of config files
and formats, etc., in ~/Library/texmf; this is incorrect, and those
should normally be discarded. (However, note that if you already had
personal stuff in ~/Library/texmf, you'll probably want to keep that,
so be careful about trashing things!)

I hope Dick will be able to find time to build a new MacTeX package
fairly soon, incorporating the texconfig-sys correction -- once he
wakes up over there on the west coast. :)
