Hi,

Do you save your file in UTF8? (If you are using TeXShop).
What do you get with this:

\font\bodyfont="Times" at 20 pt
\bodyfont

This to test various types of diacritics in XeTeX:

Schrödinger. Aigüe. Révélation. Evénement. Façonnée.
