Class 255 has special meaning (boundary of text string).

Originally, the primary intention of char class and
inter-tokens are not language/font switch, but automatic
glue insertion.  If you are not familiar with Japanese
line typesetting rules:

then you can consider French punctuations instead
---small spaces before :, ;, etc., small space after '---
