That's definitely something for Jonathat to be sorted out. I cannot help at all.

That should be expected since a simple \font command doesn't modify
any math font.

Now that's a bit weird, but it belongs to the ConTeXt mailing list or
to off-list discussion.

A reply to Peter: xdv2pdf won't be made optional unless some user asks
for it and justifies the need for it.

Well ... non-working xdvipdfms might be a reason to do that, but in
that case: should one assume that LM fonts are installed on the system
or should the old type 1 texnansi fonts be used? (I find supporting
that a bit tricky.) One can of course also assume that the user won't
ever use LM in that case.

That is normal.

That is not.

I would expect weird behaviour in any case.
