[XeTeX] XeTeX & Babel

Dear All:

I have *not* installed the latest version of XeTeX, but continue to 
expect the TL2008 epiphany. I *have*, however, installed Polyglossia v. 
1.0 and I notice that it does not /replace/ Babel, but runs together 
with it. NB, I'm not having trouble, but just wondering:  will the 
TL2008 version of XeTeX, actually /replace/ Babel?
