you'd see *exactly* that the two other texts are not rotated by

Using PDFtricks or simpdftex the output looks according to the  
documentation. So it's a bug in xdvipdfmx (I was using  
xdvipdfmx-0.7.3), which leaves a notice:

	** WARNING ** 6 memory objects still allocated
