[XeTeX] 3 non-XeTeX questions

Some questions which are not precisely XeTex questions, but on which  
XeTeX people may have information.

1. Is there a way of installing simply xindy on a Mac (xindy is not a  
part of the TeXLive distribution)?

2. Does there exist other index makers that can be used for languages  
like french, with many diactritics?

3. Is the "TeX on Mac OS X Mailing List" closed? I have tried twice  
to subscribe, and got no answer.
