Ah, no worries :)

The relevant lines to change are

\catcode`\^^^^00b5=13
\def^^^^00b5{\check at glyph@else{`\^^^^00b5}{\ERROR}}

That is, you can use the hexadecimal unicode value (in lowercase) with  
as many "^" as hex digits. (So ^^b5 and ^^^0b5 also work.)
