[XeTeX] No includegraphics?

Dear Hans:

I think your LaTeX2e is out of date, as is you memoir package. Your 
output says:

Whereas TL2008 has:

LaTeX2e <2005/12/01>
 
and for memoir:
(/usr/local/texlive/2008/texmf-dist/tex/latex/memoir/memoir.cls
Document Class: memoir 2008/08/07 v1.6180339a configurable book, report, 
article document class
etc.

Maybe you have multiple versions/installations?

I ran your examples and (substituting another picture) everything ran fine.
