Incidentally, it is also unclear to me whether one could
have two or more fonts of identical name but of different
technologies (say, Optima as TTF, OTF and Type-1) all
installed at the same time.  If it were possible, then
it would also be useful to be able to indicate through the
font-selection switch which of the technologies was preferred,
as there is no guarantee that all three would yield the
same appearance or even have identical metrics.
