OK, thanks for the ExternalLocation option.
Now here's my variant of your example, with all font characters
showing correctly, and constructed where necessary.
"correctly" here is too be read modulo the glyph variant issue
for some of the accent characters, mentioned in a previous posting.

It shows how to use different encodings for fonts whose range of
supported
characters is not complete, and how to activate raw UTF characters
and map them to the accent-macro usage.
