And it's fine with packages:  siunitx,  expl3,  xpackages
freshly downloaded from CTAN:

Using the newest versions of  fontspec  and  unicode-math
there are no problems at all.

But mixing some new and old does cause a couple of hiccups.
     (though apparently unrelated to siunitx.sty )
