[XeTeX] Text output garbled after system update -- your ideas?

You are right, the version that comes with TeX Live 2010 is fine. But 
Libertine 4.7.5-2 which is the latest released version, dating to June 2010, 
has this problem. And it is this version that made it into Debian in 2011. The 
problem was already fixed in July 2010 in 4.8.2. It's good that Tex Live uses 
the repository and does not rely on the released version.
