[XeTeX] XeTeX, XeTeXpicfile, and transparency

I don't know what this is meant to express, but it's a simple fact that fontspec and the Mac OS X only xdv2pdf output driver can produce transparent text.

Another fact is – now you could look into your fmtutil.cnf file – that a format exists for the XeTeX engine with the ConTeXt extensions. ConTeXt also supports transparent text – on every platform. Presumingly it's also able to insert an image transparently. But better RTFM.

It's also possible to prepare the image that it itself becomes transparent. Although it's possible that it would be put on a non-transparent background in XeTeX...

Another option is to insert the picture transparently as the background. The pdfTeX engine supports this via a few LaTeX packages.
