[XeTeX] XeLaTeX not using language-specific glyphs with Scheherazade 2.x

Interesting. TexShop's console didn't give a warning of any kind. However,
the log shows clearly:
. fontspec info: "defining-font"
.
. Font family 'Scheherazade(0)' created for font 'Scheherazade' with options
. [Renderer=Graphite,Script=Arabic].
.
. This font family consists of the following shapes:
.
. * 'normal' with NFSS spec.:
. <->"Scheherazade/ICU:script=arab;language=DFLT;"
... so it appears that fontspec has switched (gracefully) to using the
OpenType renderer.
