That is very interesting; thank you.  In that case, I wonder whether
there may be an incompatibility between the set of binaries that you
kindly supplied and TeX Live 2014 ?  I will try installing TeX Live 2015
on another machine, and once that is stable, try re-integrating your
modified binaries.
