[XeTeX] Sanskrit / Devanagari Manual

Dear Members,

I understand that most people these days use XeLaTex for
Sanskrit/Devanagari. Is this a valid assumption on my part?

I am trying to do a book that uses Vedic accented Devanagari along with
English.

Is there any chance you have a self made manual of sorts to give pointers
to a noob like me?

Something that deals with installation to usage will be welcome.
