$Id: INSTALL-sys-mac.txt 373 2023-01-21 22:36:22Z karl $ (public domain) The steps below install the Lucida OpenType font distribution from TUG on your system, where they can be used with any application supporting OpenType fonts, as well as the LuaTeX and XeTeX extensions of TeX. This documentation file is for macOS. (Windows and other Unix systems have their own documentation files.) First, download the zip file from TUG via the url given to you after ordering. Second, unzip the archive in a convenient location; any directory will do if you aren't using TeX. If you are using TeX, the recommended directory is the "local texmf" tree; see INSTALL-TeX.txt for details on that. Third, install the fonts. This means doing one of: 3a) Open the Lucida*.otf files in the Finder. This will launch the "Font Book" application, from which the fonts can be installed by clicking. The accompanying screencast video: INSTALL-sys-mac-fontbook.m4v or https://tug.org/store/lucida/INSTALL-sys-mac-fontbook.m4v shows the process; you may want to play it at a slow speed. You can choose in Font Book whether the fonts will be installed in the the system or personal directory: Settings -> Installation -> Default install location. The screencast video at https://tug.org/store/lucida/INSTALL-sys-mac-fontbook2.m4v shows that. (Sorry, it's too big to include in the distribution.) OR 3b) Copy the Lucida*.otf files from the distribution to the system directory /Library/Fonts/ They can be put into a subdirectory there if you wish. To get to this directory from the Finder: - select the Go menu, - then the Go To Folder option, - then in the resulting dialog type /Library/Fonts. Don't forget the leading /. OR 3c) Copy the Lucida*.otf files from the distribution to the personal directory ~/Library/Fonts/ if you cannot access the system /Library or do not want to use it. Finally, to test: browsers, office applications, etc., should now show the Lucida OT fonts as an option. See INSTALL-TeX.txt for testing with TeX. (See README.txt for additional documentation, contact information, legalities, and more.)
