{arXiv's role in making research accessible}
{arXiv is the world's largest and oldest scientific preprint server,
and a champion of open science. Started in 1991, arXiv presently holds
more than 2.4 million articles and is growing at an ever-increasing rate.

By far most of the papers submitted to arXiv are authored using \LaTeX,
and we are using \TeX\ Live to convert the papers to \PDF. But \PDF{}s
are very bad when it comes to accessibility, while \HTML\ pages have
wide support across operating systems and tools.

In this talk will introduce arXiv, discuss the open source tools that
help us make arXiv more accessible by providing accessible web pages for
papers via \LaTeXML, and go over other open source tools and decisions
that are core to arXiv and open science.}
