Perhaps Alan (If he is around?) will answer more fully, but sorry if
you did not see an announcement before. It was announced on latex-l
and I think also on c.t.t/info-tex.
As far as I know there have been no `secret' decisions being made
(Unless they are secret from me as well:-) I fear that math font
initiative stalled slightly this year due to various factors: the PS
and dc font reorganisations and general LaTeX2e maintenance, `real
jobs',...
