[texhax] 4 'minipages' to fit on one A4-size paper for a booklet. -- How to do that?

I can't think that is right, even for a simple two-folio fold, and far
less for a multifolio gathering.
A two-folio fold with a 2--3 spread in the center would require
4,1 2,3 (to allow page 2 to appear as the verso of page 1, etc.)
Any more complex scheme of imposition will have one two-page sheet with
consecutive numbers at the center of the gathering. Even numbered
versos have to be on the left hand side of every face of the A4 paper.
